These are the published figures on unfilled places at Rhyl and Carlton primaries

08 October, 2020

Carlton Primary School

• YOUR report (Call to see the figures behind school closure plan, October 1) contained some inaccurate figures about the percentage of unfilled places at Carlton Primary School, which is a key reason behind the proposal to merge the school with Rhyl Primary School.

Page six of the consultation document on the council’s website clearly shows the percentages of unfilled places at each school overall and in each year group.

Your article claimed that both schools were operating at “around 60 per cent capacity”. In fact Carlton Primary School is operating at 49.5 per cent capacity and Rhyl Primary School is operating at 70.7 per cent capacity.

As well as publishing a very detailed consultation document, the council and the governing bodies of both schools are inviting parents, carers, and members of the community to a series of socially-distanced, face-to-face, meetings from this week onwards as well as “virtual” meetings online.

Pre-booking is essential to ensure we stick to Covid-19 rules and keep everyone safe. All the dates are published on our website at or you can email us at
