Dover Castle quartet Luke Fitzgerald, Scott Carter, Alfie Francis and Harry Scannell celebrate with their Islington Midweek League trophy haul

THE latest lockdown couldn’t take the shine off Dover Castle’s belated silverware celebrations.

Just before November’s month-long suspension to grassroots sport, the Islington Midweek League team finally got to play their Invitation Cup final against Myddleton Arms, which was meant to be held back in the spring.

And for Dover Castle it was well worth the wait as four goals from Alfie Francis and an overhead kick from Paul Reid wrapped up a 5-2 victory.

It was also a special occasion for Scott Carter, who played his first game in two seasons following a knee injury.

After seeing his troops add the Invitation Cup to the Premier League title, manager Michael Slowey said: “It was nice to finish the cup final and collect our league winners trophies as well, so it was a double celebration.”
