Voters remember Lib Dems’ coalition record

14 June, 2019

Kate Pothalingam

• THE absolute barefaced gall of it, (Why go back to Labour? June 7). Kate Pothalingam, Lib Dem parliamentary candidate for Islington South and Finsbury, asks, with no sense of irony, why voters should back Labour after the Euro elections.

How forgetful of recent history does Kate think the electorate is? It was the Lib Dems, in coalition with David Cameron’s Tory Party, that supported the idea of a referendum to leave Europe that gave us the Brexit mess we’re in now in the first place.

It was your party, Kate, that went into a coalition that gave us austerity politics. Your party broke a promise on tuition fees and then tripled them.

Your party enabled support that gave us the harrowing bedroom tax, universal credit, sold off valuable and much-needed local land to developers without considering social housing, and gave private contracts, well and truly broken, to companies to make a profit that we’re still paying for.

I could go on. The list of negative Lib Dem achievements, locally and nationally, has not gone unnoticed or forgotten. The electorate does not suffer from collective amnesia. We are all too aware of your party’s achievements when in power. Not again, thank you.
