Water can’t escape drains blocked with silt and debris

30 July, 2021

• SOME of the widespread flooding seen recently after heavy rain has surely been made worse by the many blocked drains along our roads.

I have noticed many drain covers almost completely clogged up and many drains just blocked with silt and debris so the water cannot escape.

Transport for London are responsible for Red Routes in London but Islington Council is responsible for other roads.

I think it’s years since I have seen any regular maintenance of the drains. Does Thames Water not have any responsibility here?

Considering the devastating damage that flooding causes wouldn’t it be cost effective to do this work?
