We are petitioning to save Gospel Oak Nursery

17 January, 2020

Parents at the Gospel Oak nursery appeal for it to be saved from closure

• GOSPEL Oak Nursery in Lismore Circus, a much-loved and well-used Sure Start, established in 1971, is under threat of closure, jeopardising the wellbeing of 50 under-fives, including children with special needs who are settled and thriving, (Campaign begins to save council-run nurseries facing the axe, January 17).

Parents are campaigning to make the London Borough of Camden see sense but the “public consultation” being carried out by the council is not fair or transparent.

Three other nurseries are also facing the axe. These proposals are under the guise of “repurposing” the facilities into ones which will offer zero childcare solutions for children under five years of age.

We demand genuine consultation, not sham consultation, and a time-line that will enable us to seek advice, prepare impact statements and meet other stakeholders to give each other support.

The staff at Gospel Oak are exemplary and have won “outstanding” reports from inspectors. It would be a crime against childhood to close this community asset and one that would have a devastating knock-on effect on children, parents and their families and friends.

If you are affected by these closures, or can offer advice, support or fund-raising ideas, please contact me at the email address below and join our developing campaign.

We have set up an online petition at www.change.org/savegospeloaknursery.
