Would it have been Ali or Marciano?

Sir Keir Starmer

• FOR Adrian Betham to conflate Sir Keir Starmer with Earl Attlee, the National Government of May 1940, and the National Health Service is to my mind as wistful as pondering would Muhammad Ali have beaten Rocky Marciano (Choice of PM, Letters, March 26).

In May 1940 Clement Attlee stated he would lead the Labour Party into a national government but not with Neville Chamberlain as prime minister.

Thus did Attlee bring Winston Churchill to the premiership in 1940 well before the NHS was ever thought of – Aneurin Bevan being in opposition.

I would be very grateful if Mr Betham could explain what exactly is the “Starmer approach” to which he refers.
